02 Match the vibe

This set is really special, because it was a house party of a good friend of mine, Marc Piesker, who invited me and asked if I could play. It was a no-brainer to do it, because he’s a homie, you know.

But what makes it special for me, that was the first time, i ask what records or genre do they want to play, so i can see the vision and most important, to match the vibe. Because when i had my first gig as DJ for aftershow from indie artist/band Fraire, with other two DJs. I play some records from D’Angelo, Sade, and Astrud Gilberto, but owner of the bar, wasnt a fan because it was late midnight and some customer leave it and before the two DJs, Namesti and V. Dietz, did a fantastic job, mixing with funk, soul, pop and little bit spanish that everybody and their mom dance their ass off and than after i play to a chill and calm down mixing, rather to take the energy and use the momentum to make them hot, was a hard but important lesson for me.

Thats why when i invite to a houseparty or book in a club, i want to ask them what genre do they want, hows the crowd and which time slot i play, because sure if they give me freedom is nice and sexy, but i like to be challange and want to see their vision to match their vibe and the audience!
